Our five models with intellectual disabilities have been cast for the event.
Our five child models with intellectual disabilities participated in a sports event.
On September 18, 2022, the “Sports Event for Children with Intellectual Disabilities,” organized by the general incorporated association CORD PROJECT, was held in Tokyo. Five of our models with intellectual disabilities, along with their siblings, participated in the event.
With the support of active track and field athletes, the participants enjoyed activities such as bouldering, running practice, and relays, making for an action-packed two hours that flew by in no time.
During the event, our model Shuntaro was shouting, “I want to go home now!” But by the next day, he was saying, “I want to go again!” and “Can’t I play with the older brothers anymore?”—already eager to attend another session.
It seems he had a great time after all!
The level of support for children with physical disabilities compared to those with intellectual or mental disabilities is vastly different, especially in terms of corporate sponsorship. Intellectual and mental disabilities are still treated with a certain level of discomfort, as if handling something delicate. That’s exactly why our organization wants to provide support,” said Mr. Ikebuchi, the representative of CORD PROJECT.
Mr. Ikebuchi, along with the athletes and many others who supported us on the day, shared that they had never interacted with children with intellectual disabilities before.
Even so, they chose to turn their attention to us.
They took action, deciding to walk alongside us.
That gesture of goodwill truly warmed our hearts.
To everyone at CORD PROJECT, thank you so much for your kind support.
